Open vented cylinders
These are all fed from a store of cold water - either a cold water tank in your roof or a built-in tank. They all use gravity to force the water out to the hot taps. A pump can be fitted after these to boost pressures if required. |
Indirect
Heated via pipework from your boiler with immersion heater backup
Fortic
A direct or indirect cylinder with the cold water feed cistern built into the top of the cylinder rather than a separate cistern in the roofspace. Often found in flats. |

Direct
Heated by electric immersion heaters only - you may have one or two immersion heaters, depending on the size of cylinder. |

Solar
For the addition of solar panels while keeping your cold water roof tank |
Open vented cylinders (except the Fortic type) are supplied with cold water stored in roof cisterns. |
Round
A very useful cold water cistern that can be folded to fit through smaller loft hatches.
Coffin
The coffin tank is very useful for fitting into low height roofspaces and tucking away in the eaves space of loft conversions.
Rectangular
The standard rectangular cold water cistern. This can be more space efficient, especially if joining two or more together to give a higher stored water volume.

All cisterns are fitted with a closely sealing lid to prevent insects geting in and and overflow kit. We fully insulate them to prevent freezing. |
