Gas Safe Corgi

As of 1st April 2009, CORGI are no longer in charge of the register for approved gas engineers. The government has awarded this responsibility to Capita - one of the UK's leading outsourcing companies. We are sorry to see CORGI lose this contract but it appears that they brought it upon themselves by not fully focusing on their primary responsibility: promoting and enforcing Gas Safety.

As the company CORGI owns this eponymous brand, the government asked Capita to create a new brand, which will be publicly owned. This means that no further change will be necessary if responsibility for the register is awarded to another company in the future.

As customers you should be aware that Corgi is continuing membership for gas engineers but only on a voluntary basis; so they can still take advantage of the many additional services offered.

The upshot is that your gas engineer may still be registered with Corgi but this does not mean that he is allowed to work on gas. By law, all engineers must now be Gas Safe registered to work on gas in your home.
